Mom's News

I talked to my Mom on the phone tonight for a while and after hearing
her story, I thought I would share with you. Two kittens now live on
the "aching acre" with my Mom and Neal, names yet to be
determined...The story goes a little like this, I'm sure there is some
variation to the original story. My Mom and Neal have an old claw foot
tub in their house, that my Mom and Neal bathe in, not together...at
least not in this story anyway ;)...but my Mom was in the kitchen when
her new little black boy cat comes right up to her and meows really
urgently, and runs away towards the bathroom, and my Mom, not thinking
anything of it, goes on about her business. The kitten returns, as if
demanding her attention, and proceeds to run away again, towards the
bathroom. My mom decides to follow him, he was so urgently trying to
get her attention anyway.
He rushed over to the tub, jumped up on
the box as if saying, "over here, come over here"...and sure enough,
his little sister was swimming frantically in the tub of water...with
no ledge to get hold of. My Mom quickly rescued the little kitten,
toweled her off, and praised the little boy cat, even calling him a
Hero! I thought that was such a neat story to share. So thedilemma on the 'aching
acre' these days is what to call these little beasts of burden...stark
black, skinny little kittens...I think Hero is an appropriate name for
the young boy, and well his sister, she could be called damsel in
distress...that is my vote, Hero and Damsel.

Texas 'sorta' tornado

Last night as I watched the weather on TV and out the window...the weatherman said, "The radar is indicating a slight rotation...right where we live, and so out the window, we saw this. The pictures are not too clear, but you get the idea. I was more scared than Troy, who actually uttered, "Get Phin and Yzerman and go get in the tub...I'll keep watching." We did not go in the tub..and it was all ok. Nothing gets my heart beating faster than possible tornados...well and rattlesnakes in the yard!(But that's another story)

Refried Beans & Costumes...can you guess what we are?

Today, we ate at one of the local Mexican restaurants in Austin (Curra's) Phin got his first taste of refried beans...and he liked it!! He seemed really happy that I gave him this new food. We also went on a walk and enjoyed the warm Texas weather before it gets too hot!!! I hope you all enjoyed your day today, count your blessings before you go to bed, we are all lucky to be alive.

Pit Stop

Heather, Lawrence, and Mia stopped in on their way to a wedding this weekend...Phin and Mia are becoming good friends. Mia read Brown Bear Brown Bear to Phin, really read it to him, it was so cute. She also told me that I have wings because I looked like and Angel from Heaven...too kind is that little Mia. ;)

This just in...pregnant women take good photos in shadow (April 2006).
Two butterflies mated outside our window today.
Tara had gnocchi for dinner. It was good.
Troy is pesimistic as ever, but I still love him.
Phin is ready for bed holding his Elmo. So Sweet.
Yzerman is laying under my feet at the computer. So Sweet.
Coltrane and Minx hardly moved today.
OK OK, Troy changed the litter today and worked on architecture, and I love him.

Good Vibrations

I think I am going to start a new blog soon...in addition to the taratroybaby
blog of course, or just add it to this one...

As I was driving to work today, scanning the radio
stations (my usual 3, local music, NPR, and the UT radio station) I
could not get passed hearing about all of the bad things that are
happening all around us everyday. I get to work, turn on my computer to
check my email, and what pops up (every ten seconds or so) more bad
news from the AP. What is news worthy anymore? What makes the
news...news? I can't help but think we are all worse for the wear
because of all of the negativity that is slammed in our face
everyday...if nothing else, we are desensitized by it all.

My goal for my NEWS page, is to focus on something positive, something that
stands out above all of the negative images we see everyday. Whether it
be a random act of kindness, a smile, a beautiful image, a good deed, a
job well done, or just an affirmation, I feel that I need topublicly
display these sorts of things in my own world, and hopefully touch
yours as well. I am guided today by a good friend of mine who is a very
strong person, and one of the most positive and heartwarming people I
know, TiffanyKapture. A year ago she lost her father in an accident, yet she remains so positive about life...she is an inspiration
, and just today, she wrote this email that I thought I would share
with you, so you can see what I mean! I will join her today after work
to take in some of the great Austin spring weather and enjoy her
company!

She titled it "Why I love Austin today..."

... because the juniors I've been monitoring just finished their last TAKS
test ever and now I'm listening to one of my former geography students
play the guitar and sing, both of which he's amazing at!! And because
the teacher I was monitoring the test with decided to two-step with me
as my student played and sang and 25 juniors watched and giggled! Yeah!
It's a good day to be Austin! I can't imagine this scenario playing
itself out anywhere else. Hope your Friday is treating you this well.
If not, fear not,because it is Austin, and there's always some fantastic music live to take in. :)

Today we went on a train ride through the Hill Country with Troy's Parents, we went to Burnet for the Bluebonnet festival, it was fun.
